So, if you’re thinking of joining us, or you’re just trying to prepare for your upcoming trip to Apache Junction this winter, here’s a short list of everything you might want to bring with you.

Spening Time Outdoors?

Our winters aren’t like the ones up north. Even during our coldest month in December, Arizona typically stays above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the perfect location to explore its many outdoor attractions.

For your general day-to-day outside

Whether you’re spending your day at the Mesa Market Place or you’re lounging by our pool, you’ll want to have water on hand, sunscreen, and a hat. Wide-brimmed caps are great for sun protection, and will help you stay cool on our warmer days. Reusable water bottles are a great choice to have with you throughout your trip, as single-use water bottles are more flimsy, hold less water, and are easier to lose.

For hiking

Around Apache Junction, we have both the Superstition Mountains, and the Lost Dutchman State Park. With miles of trails and organized hikes available to join, snowbirding here presents the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs in the beautiful Arizona landscape.

To be prepared for your hikes, it’s great to bring a backpack that can hold a water bladder or extra water bottles if needed. Trail food like granola or nuts is also always a good idea. Of course, you’ll want the proper footwear, too — hiking boots will be more comfortable than regular tennis shoes and offer better protection. But try to break them in first!

Additionally, walking sticks will provide extra support during your walk. Lastly, consider picking up maps of the trails and parks, or using your cellphone to look up the trails beforehand.

Golfing, Shuffleboard & Swimming at the Pool

  • Golfing: If you’re thinking about hitting the green, don’t neglect proper footwear. Long socks and pants may be more comfortable than shorts. For protection against the sun, think about hats and sunglasses. And, most important of all, don’t forget your clubs!
  • Shuffleboard: At Superstition Buttes RV Resort & Snowbird Community, we have full, tournament-size shuffleboards available for friendly matches. Think about bringing footwear with good traction, and if you have your own cue sticks or pucks, feel free to bring them along!
  • Swimming: Spending time at the pool? Towels, swimwear, sunscreen and water are always essential! Of course, a good book is never a bad idea either!
